ABSTRACT
The goal of this research is to better grasp and interpret the elements that influence Turkey-
US bilateral affairs, which have been on a roller coaster ride in past few years. In earlier
times, Turkish foreign policy took a Western-based direction, compliant with the country's
aim of westernization. Turkish foreign policy, on the other hand, has changed dramatically
as it turned out to be evident that the protracted EU admission efforts would not come to
a conclusion. As a consequence, current foreign policy of Turkey, which is less Western
centric and intimately tied with the geography of the former Ottoman Empire, has had an
impact on bilateral affairs with the United States.
Common interests are the most essential element influencing bilateral ties between Turkey
and the United States. The study investigates how bilateral connections are sustained when
two countries have mutual concerns, as well as the implications of this if the two states
have opposing concerns. Consequently, the international organizations to which the two
states are a part of have not been able to modify the bilateral relationship’s interest-driven
framework.
