| Özet notu | ABSTRACT The discourse on human trafficking has taken more importance in light of the infusion of modern slavery tendencies. African states are worse off as the workforce is continually depleted in search of pastures anew in Europe only to fall into the hands of traffickers and human rights abusers, sometimes deported back to their countries. The issue of trafficking however is not limited to those who find their way to Europe, for slave dens and human trafficking indeed exist in Africa. Migrants who pay smugglers to get them to Europe find out there is no Eldorado anywhere as they either start forced labour or are forced into prostitution en-route Europe. The world systems theory was utilized in order to provide a clear understanding of modern trafficking and slave tendencies. States within the northern African region are important to this study. This brings to bear the importance of the region as both a transit point to Europe and destination for migrants held ransom on their way to Europe. States cannot be accused of generally folding their arms. Through the instrument of conventions and action plans they have been able to map out ways of combating human trafficking. However, such action plans are brought into question when there is a yearly geometric rise in the numbers of human trafficking victims alongside newly infused slavery undertones. Therefore, this study analyzes human trafficking induced slavery in Africa with the aim of mapping out routes, developing the cause and effect argument and examining the legal tools in combating human trafficking in Africa. |
