Özet notu | ABSTRACT<br/>This study aims to determine the research question of whether China’s role toward peace and stability in Africa helps address Africa's security concerns. It is argued that, despite considerable progress, the current conflicts in Africa show that the African peace and security structure is failing to prevent or manage conflict and peacebuilding. While Africa has capacity challenges in stopping or containing devastating conflicts, cooperation with China provides African states with an opportunity to alleviate insecurity and instability in an effort to promote their own development and growth. It is further argued that China’s increased involvement in African peace and stability has become a threat to some African states, as Beijing's supply of arms to rogue regimes has helped to enhance conflicts in some states. African governments have pledged to eradicate gun violence on the continent and promote long-term peace and stability. Unfortunately, the leaders in Africa's pledge to silence guns by 2020 has not been fulfilled. Conflicts in regions like Sudan and other regions are persistently increasing. From the hypothesis, a detailed review of relevant literatures was done, and the information collected was used to develop realism as a theoretical framework for the study. A thorough and detailed methodology was developed, and it describes a methodology using an interpretative approach. The study finds out that China’s increasing global influence, its economic interest, and the Belt and Road initiatives are the main drivers for its involvement in Africa's security concerns. Moreover, it was discovered that China’s participation in African security through peace operations, financing, arms supply, and training of African security forces. However, the study also reveals that Chinese weapons have been used to compromise peace and stability in multiple instances in various African countries. They've been operated to perpetrate egregious crimes against humanity and human rights regulation on the African continent. |
