Özet notu | ABSTRACT<br/>The Pavement condition index “PCI” is considered a simple, cheap, and appropriate <br/>method to control and monitor surface road conditions. It’s identifying the <br/>rehabilitation and maintenance that will be required and ensuring the wisely spent <br/>budget during the maintenance process. <br/>PCI depends on the rating process based on surface distress observation for the roads. <br/>PCI rating is considered a tool used to assess maintenance and rehabilitation which<br/>will be needed for the road sections. Due to the huge number of vehicles in Qatar, fast <br/>response of roads R and M will be required to keep the users safe and also increase the <br/>pavement’s serviceability life to control the budgets of the road’s maintenance. <br/>Based on PCI the paper will study the condition of Umm Al-Jamajim street to evaluate <br/>the road's distress types and severity and necessary maintenance or rehabilitation <br/>procedure that will be required to keep the road safe and control the cost. A site visit <br/>to the location of the investigation has been done to realize the conditions of the road <br/>and to identify the traffic loads to choose the best time to proceed with the evaluation. <br/>Then the data has been collected which includes pictures and measurements to be used <br/>in the data analysis. <br/>The methodology of the case study has followed the technical manual of maintenance<br/>(AASHTO). Where the PCI method has been followed to evaluate the conditions of <br/>each section of the road. The rating procedures have been applied to understand the <br/>quality of the surface road, which will help to recognize if the street will have required <br/>maintenance. As per the technical manual recommendation, a correction plan has been <br/>prepared to repair road deterioration considering the economic and engineering <br/>impacts. <br/>The results of the research have found that the average PCI rating for the road is equal <br/>to 87.4, ranging between 85 to 100 which is rated as excellent condition. Also, several <br/>maintenance plans are mentioned to use as a method of repair for the deterioration of <br/>the road. <br/>Keywords: Distress, Evaluation, Maintenance, Pavement Condition Index,<br/>Rehabilitation, Roads. |
