Özet notu | ABSTRACT<br/>Ion- imprinting technology was utilized in the fabrication of copper ion-imprinted <br/>sorbent derived from chitosan. Metformin was used to make a complex with the <br/>metal (copper ion), then added to the mixture of Chitosan dissolved in 1% (v/v) <br/>acetic acid solution, which then form the corresponding polymeric complex. The <br/>imprinting was then achieved upon cross-linking and eliminating the incorporated <br/>Cu(II) ions to finally have the Cu(II) ion-imprinted sorbent material (Cu(II)-IIP). The <br/>material was investigated/ characterized using various techniques such as FTIR, <br/>SEM and EDS. Surface Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) images of imprinted <br/>beads had pore structure, large surface and contact area, making it fit for adsorption. <br/>The obtained imprinted beads was examined to evaluate its selective affinity to <br/>capture the target Cu(II) ions. The tendency of the developed sorbent toward the <br/>targeted Cu(II) ions was compared to the control non-imprinted beads (Cu(II)-NIP). <br/>In addition, effects of adsorption pH were studied. Finally, the reusability and <br/>selectivity of Cu (II)-IIPs was studied. The formed copper imprinted polymer bead <br/>has a removal efficiency of 96.68% for copper ion under selected operational <br/>parameters, confirming its suitability for copper ion contaminant in water and <br/>wastewater. <br/>Keywords: Adsorption, Heavy metal, Ion imprinted polymer (IIP), Non-imprinted <br/>polymer (NIP) Copper, Polymer. |
