| Özet notu | ABSTRACT<br/>Given the long history of hostility and tension between the two nations, the Russian <br/>conquest of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, was not entirely unexpected. Both the <br/>Georgian conflict in 2008 and the annexation of Crimea in 2014 served as blatant <br/>signs of Russia's propensity to exercise its influence in nearby regions. Concerns <br/>about a possible invasion were further heightened by the protracted conflict in <br/>Donbas and Russia's military buildup in Belarus in late 2021. In Russia's perspective, <br/>Ukraine is more significant since it serves as a strategic link between the European <br/>Union and Russia. The nation is a vital transit point for supplies of energy and trade <br/>between Russia and Europe. The complicated relationships between Ukraine and <br/>Russia also result from their shared historical and cultural heritage. The causes of the <br/>invasion are the subject of differing views. Others point to geopolitical objectives <br/>and the intention to undermine Ukraine's pro-European posture, while some claim <br/>that Russia aimed to safeguard ethnic Russians in Ukraine and reclaim control over <br/>historically significant territories. Other suggested motives include preserving power <br/>in the area and economic interests. The invasion had a significant effect on Russia <br/>and Ukraine as well as the rest of the world. Huge numbers of people have been <br/>killed and displaced as a result of the violence. It has harmed Western nations' ties <br/>with Russia, resulting in harsh sanctions and tense diplomatic relations.
