| Özet notu | This study examined grief and depression level symptoms in individuals with or without the loss of parents or siblings in terms of gender, age and country. To show the level of grief and depression, to determine the relationships and differences that may exist and to predict if the cause of death had an impact on grief and depression level. The research was quantitative, eligible for the study was young adults experienced loss from 6 months -5 years above, data was collected from 321 participants ː 164 females and 157 males from different countries. Age 18-29 was included. 187 reported internal, 47 external and 87 others cause. 73 lost parents, 74 siblings and 174 close friends and others. Average scored no grief and depression the average scored mild depression. Gender levels of grief for both genders were the same level but depressed females scored higher than male but still mild depression. The age group average did not meet grief and depression the average was mild depression. Level of grief and depression in terms of country seemed to have different levels. Grief and depression were weakly correlated r (321) = .227, p < .01; no correlation between grief, gender, age and country. A weak positive correlation between depression and gender r (321) =.184, p<.01; no correlation between depression, age and country. Also statistically significant difference was recorded between depression and parent or sibling loss, p<.05. In terms of gender female was significant, the age range 18-21 and 22-25 was significant too, p < .05 and in terms of country only Cyprus was significant, p < .05. In addition, a statistically significant difference was recorded between grief and parental or sibling loss, p<.05. There was significant difference between grief levels of individuals with or without parent or sibling loss in terms of gender on female, age range 22-25 and country of origin only Cyprus, p < .05. Moreover, in terms of gender, age and country internal cause of death of parents predicted grief and external predicted depression. Others causes of death of sibling predicted grief but external causes predicted depression. A clear relationship, differences and prediction of grief and depression based on relationship with deceased in terms of gender, age range and country of origin. Counsellors who will work with individuals who are experiencing the loss of a loved one and also to readers will benefit from the findings of the study.<br/> |
