| Özet notu | The liberty of the press is highly precarious in numerous African nations, including<br/>those that have substantial press freedom rankings. Journalists continue to encounter<br/>mistreatment, persecution, detentions, and aggressions for their professional activities.<br/>Hence, this present study was aimed to examine the challenges facing press freedom<br/>in Africa and Cameroon in particular.<br/>To gain insight on the challenges facing press freedom in Cameroon, the qualitative<br/>research method was used through an online video interview technique with media<br/>experts within the private sector in Cameroon. And, in defining the sample population<br/>which consists of journalists working in the private sector a purposive sampling<br/>method is adopted and a total of 15 journalists were chosen from 12 different media<br/>organizations in Cameroon. In effect, an online video interview was conducted and<br/>was deemed appropriate because of distance and the size of the country, and going for<br/>an online interview will enable us reach a representative sample. Then the data were<br/>analyzed with the help of Nvivo software.<br/>Moreover, the study helped in identifying the different challenges facing press freedom<br/>in Africa and Cameroon in particular as well as the role play by the government in the<br/>promotion of press freedom in the country. Again, the findings served as milestones<br/>proposing long-lasting solutions to the Government in the promotion of press freedom<br/>and democracy. |
