Özet notu The vernacular architecture of Northern Nigeria, particularly its iconic mud huts, exemplifies a diverse range of native construction methods designed to suit the region's dry and warm environment. Although they are common, there. is a significant lack of study in comprehending their thermal comfort and material effectiveness in comparison to modern construction techniques. More specifically, comprehensive studies are scarce to assess the thermal efficiency and long-term viability of these conventional buildings. This research aims to fill this void by conducting a comparative Analysis of the thermal efficiency and material effectiveness of mud houses. This aims to demonstrate. How construction techniques may provide guidance and improve contemporary sustainable design. This study is essential for the development of energy-efficient construction techniques that respect the local tradition and promote environmental sustainability.
This research endeavors to bridge this gap by conducting a meticulous comparative analysis of the thermal performance and material efficacy of mud huts in hot and dry climate. The study aims to integrate construction methods with contemporary sustainable practices to explore avenues for enhancing the sustainability of vernacular architecture. By delving into case studies from selected states, representing diverse construction techniques, the research seeks to assess the sustainability strategies inherent in the design and layout of these structures.
Through a mixed-methods approach encompassing qualitative and quantitative methodologies, this study will investigate sustainable practices in construction, material selection, form, layout, thermal comfort, and energy efficiency. Leveraging advanced software tools such as the DesignBuilder Simulation Program and Revit BIM, the research will conduct environmental simulations and 3D visualizations to evaluate the energy efficiency of mud huts.
The theoretical framework guiding this research will delve into the environmental suitability of vernacular architecture, considering factors such as industrialization, architectural styles, and typology. By addressing the existing deficit in research and
iv
highlighting the potential of construction methods in contemporary sustainable architecture, this study seeks to identify both the advantages and limitations of mud huts concerning thermal comfort and energy efficiency.
Ultimately, this study has shed light on the significant potential of integrating construction methods with modern sustainable practices in hot and dry climate of Northern Nigeria's vernacular architecture. Through a meticulous comparative analysis of mud huts' thermal performance and material efficacy, the research has revealed valuable insights into enhancing sustainability while preserving cultural heritage.
