'Abstract Cyprus, the third largest island in the Mediterranean sea, has been inhabited throughout history and the rise of architectural culture in the area has been shaped by the geographic conditions and seismicity of the island; adobe and stone have traditionally been the most used construction materials. In this thesis, the structural decisions involved in making the stone primary schools constructed in the early 20th century were studied in order to assess their stability and conformity to the earthquake regulation. There are a large number of stone buildings in Northern Cyprus. Most of them have historical and traditional value. They need to be studied and preserved. In this study, (eighty one) 81 stone schools were inventoried in order to understand their conditions earthquake performances, so that the safety and suggestions can be made for the future development of similar buildings. After determining the needs for schools in the period their geographical location, the type of plans used and their structural, design and material characteristics were analyzed to evaluate these buildings' conformity to the Earthquake Regulation/Disaster Code. Taking into consideration the seismicity of Cyprus throughout history, it is clear than the Structural characteristics of these historical stone buildings are important for the safety of the people using them. This study aims to make a contribution to the safety of the buildings' user and to the sustainability of the stone architecture heritage of the island. Keywords: Historical Stone Structure, Disaster Code, Inventory Studies, Project and Structure Characteristics. Özet Akdeniz'in üçüncü büyük adası olan Kıbrıs tarih boyunca iskan edilmiştir. Bölgede gelişen yapı kültürü Kıbrıs'ın iklim, kültür ve depremselliğinden etkilenmiştir. Kerpiç ve taş en çok kullanılan yapı malzemeleridir. Geleneksel taş yapı kararlarının deprem yönetmeliğine uygunluğu ve depremdeki güvenilirliği taş okul örneğinde, inceleme konusu olmuştur. Döneme ait okul ihtiyacı ve coğrafi dağılımları berlirlendikten sonra; Geleneksel taş okulların plan tipi, yapısal, tasarım ve malzeme özellikleri, deprem yönetmeliğine uygunluğu açısından incelenmiştir. Kıbır'ın tarih içinde göstermiş olduğu depremsellik göz önünde bulundurulduğunda, geleneksel tas yapıların yapısal özelliklerin içinde yaşayan insanların güvenilirliği açısından önemlidir. Yığma yapı taşıyıcı sisteminin depremdeki davransışı incelenmiş ve tarihi taş yığma yapıların sürdürülebilirliğine katkıda bulunmak istenmiştir. Kuzey Kıbrıs'ta büyük bir yığma taş yapı stoğunun bulunduğu ve bunların büyük kısmının korunması gereken tarihi ve geleneksel yapılar olduğu göz önünde bulundurularak, (seksen bir) 81 okul belirlenip envanter çalışması yapılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı; yapılmış ve yapılmakta olan tarihi taş yığma okul yapıların deprem sonrasında mevcut durumlarının irdelenebilmesi, yeni yapılaşmalar için yığma yapıların deprem güvenliğinin arttırılması yönünde çalışmaların sürdürülebilmesidir.
