Konu(lar): Özet: 'ABSTRACT Tobacco use is one of the chief preventable causes of death and illness in the world. Presently, about four million people worldwide died yearly from tobacco related diseases i.e one death every eight seconds. If current trend continues, there will be one death in every three seconds by 2030, and a third of them in developing countries. The objective of the study was to examine the demographic characteristics of respondents; examining their smoking behavior; understand the perception of the respondents on the risk associated with smoker; examining the respondent’s attitude towards anti-smoking campaign; and, to establish the factor(s) which facilitate and hinder the delivery of smoking cessation among the Lagos youths. The study was a cross-sectional survey among youths in Lagos, Nigeria through a web-based questionnaire administration. Data collection was carried out with the use of structured questionnaire with a sample of one hundred and ninety. Descriptive and inferential statistical analysis was performed for data analysis. The study found that there is no mean difference in the tobacco use among both sexes. Also, they both shared same attitude and belief about use of tobacco. Their level of awareness on anti-smoking campaign are of the same level. However, their intention to quit smoking was statistically significant different. Moreover, this study found that the respondent’s perception on whether their exposure to smoking is harmful does not correlate with their intention to quit smoking. But the study established it that more efforts putting in the anti-smoking campaign will yield a positive increase in the rate of smoking cessation. The study therefore recommend the following: school-based educational program; strict legislation to completely ban all direct and indirect tobacco advertisement; health education to be provided for the youth; and declaring public places as “tobacco-free places”. Lastly, it was recommended that there is need for a critical step to be taken in system reform which is to identify the goals the system needs to pursue (including new or revised ones) and to work out what systemic changes are required to most effectively achieve the most ambitious goals (that is, making the society smoking-free).
