'After two great wars the continent of Europe started to think about a way to prevent from a destruction which would have a great affect not only on the continent but also on the whole world. This had to be done with a unification of whole Europe with its important neighbors. Colds war era could be seen as united times against the pressure of common enemy the Iron Curtain. This unification was consisting of USA and NATO. Europe\'s reconstruction came with the idea of economic unification. This type of unification could have been an initiation of the United Europe. With economics unification, Europeans \' thoughts about the United Europe gained more importance and his came with the ECSC, WEU, EDC, EEU etc. After the end of the cold war era, the idea of saving the defense and security of Europe from the control of the USA and forming a security structure executed by European countries started to be supported. The steps taken in this area took European Union up to the stage of establishing the CFSP. The security concept which was perceived as the mass protection of borders and being ready for external attacks changed and this change brought some new methods of ensuring security such as protecting and sustaining peace, preventing the conflicts and crisis management. Turkey which had an important part in European defense by means of its role in NATO during Cold War has wanted to take the place in the new European security structure. Having the second largest army after the USA in NATO , Turkey with its location and also its role in European defense and security structure for more than 50 years, have been gaining importance in the view of Europe.'
