' ABSTRACT Human is a social creature. A language is a significant tool to ensure and maintain this sociality. The variety of the languages which are spoken by the people constitute an impediment to understanding and communicating with each other. This problem can be overcome by teaching foreign languages starting from early ages and utilizing it when it is needed. One of the most central subjects in teaching the foreign language is the methodology to be used. One of the purposes of educational drama, which is a teaching methodology, is to develop person\'s language and communication abilities. In addition to this, the educational drama which helps the development of person\'s social development is frequently employed in foreign language learning. The purpose of the study is to examine the success level of the subject groups which were composed of the fourth graders on learning vocabulary in foreign language courses by making use of educational drama as a learning methodology. The subject group of this study was performed with Yakacık Doğa Schools fourth graders. As a studying subject, the topic of "Vegetables" which exist in the fourth-grade courses was chosen randomly. The research utilized pre-test- post-test control group semi- experimental design and quantitative data. In the process of the research, Courses were performed with the experimental group in the workplace where the educational drama technique was applied, whereas control group joined courses where the conventional methods were implemented. The teaching period for both groups is determined as one month. The total sum of the control group and experiment group were 62 persons. The sum of the control group was 31 students (%50), and also the sum of the experimental group was 31 students (50%). A success exam which consists of 25 questions prepared by the researcher was applied to the students in order to evaluate knowledge of the students related to the determined topics. As a result of the research, it was seen that the experimental group who learned a foreign language with educational drama method was more successful than the control group who studied with conventional methods at learning vocabulary. In the lights of these findings, it can be said that educational drama method has a positive impact on the success of fourth graders who learn a foreign language. i Key Words: Foreign language teaching, educational drama, learning English vocabulary, drama techniques, drama methods, educational drama.
