'Abstract The press media has been key in promoting democracy and rule of law all over the world. However, this study aims to find out the role of the news media in Ghana's multi-party democracy with the focus on 2016 general election using Enquirer, Daily Guide, Daily Dispatch and the Daily Graphic newspapers. The 2016 parliamentary and presidential elections of the good people of Ghana was a very crucial one of which the stakes were very high. This was due to the fact that after the country\'s enactment and acceptance of the 1992 constitution which is currently being used to govern the country, every political party and for that matter the incumbent president at least is able to rule for eight years renewable every four years. Jerry Rawlings ruled from 1992-2000, John Kuffuor ruled from 2000-2008.However, John Atta mills the next president after Rawlings and Kuffuor died four months to his first tenure. The constitution of the country automatically gives the vice president the opportunity to continue the unexpired term of the late president therefore John Mahama won the 2012 elections which was not accepted by the opposition and the case taken to court. However, the supreme court of Ghana affirmed his election so he ruled for four years. Then came 2016 general elections which John Mahama did not want to be different from all the preceding presidents was keen on winning. However, the opposition New Patriotic Party was keen on unseating him. This coupled with other internal political and economic issues made the 2016 elections an election with many expectations. In all this the neutrality or otherwise of the media or in this context the press was on test not only in Ghana but the international community. This work uses the required methodologies and relevant sources to unravel the role the press played in the 2016 general elections. As stated earlier newspapers such as Daily Graphic was chosen due to its national and non-partisan stand, Daily Dispatch was also chosen due to the fact that it is not bias and always gives forecast of election results. The Enquirer newspaper and Daily Guide were chosen due to the fact that they are bias towards the NDC and NPP the main contenders in the 2016 general elections.'
