'ABSTRACT Global logistics has critical role in world trade, the smooth flow of goods, services and information is without a doubt critical to how the world economy functions. As such this research study's objective is to explore and understand the business models in the global logistics industry and seek an insight of how these models can be innovated to meet the demands of a modern and dynamic business environment. The study looks at three big established companies in the logistics industry in attempt to understand how they have changed their operational models in the wake of business environment changes in-order to fend off competition at the same time delivering value to their clients. The results of the research findings are that business models in logistics industry are directly affected by changes in its environment and players in this sector need to constantly change their operational systems to stay competitive and meet the demands of their clientele. The highlight of the results being that value for money is of paramount importance to clients in service industries as such companies should focus their business model innovations on six elements of value which are value proposition, value communication, value creation, value delivery, value capturing and value networks. A global logistics business model framework recommendation was based on the results that were obtain from the research and emphasis should be made on following the appropriate pattern of the innovation processes in business models to achieve business model innovation capable of enhancing competitive advantage.
