'ABSTRACT Discourse in the international community does not appear by default, if this was the case then all matters would have been given attention. Hence, the question is how do certain issues get to the global agenda? In a bid to answer this, the thesis shows evidence of coalition among Nongovernmental organizations in Darfur and Sri Lanka Crisis. The thesis goes on to show that the human rights NGOs working together may not have the same instruments of influence but coalition still exists. The thesis findings show two things, first, in order to influence the global agenda NGOs would need to build a coalition with other NGOs. Second, it shows that NGOs do not form a coalition from the onset of the crisis, they try to work on their own but as the cases worsens they build coalition. The thesis describes how Amnesty International and International Crisis Group has worked together in the cases identified. A coalition among NGOs may not have been acknowledged by the respective NGOs because these NGOs are known to promote their achievements independently. Yet, an analysis of specific actions at the global level shows that it takes more than a single NGO to influence international agenda.
