ABSTRACT This research sheds light on gender issues, women's empowerment and political participation in post-war Sierra Leone and Liberia, and the role of the international community in helping to rehabilitate women and girls. It utilizes a qualitative methodological design. Its findings indicate that, despite the efforts and resources that have been diverted towards this cause, it has not yet been totally able to tackle the menace of women's empowerment and political participation in both countries respectively. It concludes that, despite the positive outcomes, more efforts are essential in providing women with an effective rehabilitation process in the two countries. Keywords: Gender Empowerment, War, ECOWAS, United Nations, Sierra Leone, Liberia.
