ABSTRACT
Many businesses, including those in the paint manufacturing industry, are still unaware of the economic implications of health and safety management in their organization. They often do not recognize the costs of accidents and ill-health, even if they are conscious of the fact that a poor working environment may result in costs for the company.
The study seeks to evaluate the impact of health and safety management on employees’ performance at selected paint producing companies in Nigeria. The goal of the study is to find out how employee performance is affected by safety behaviors, emergency planning, health and safety training, an organizational health and safety management system, incident investigations, and hazard surveillance.
The judgmental sampling method was used to select the 156 respondents from three paint manufacturing companies in Nigeria. The data were collected through the use of questionnaires. SPSS software was used to analyze the data.
It was found that there is a positive relationship between employees’ performance, safety behaviors, and emergency preparedness, organizational health and safety management system; incidence investigation; and hazard surveillance. There is a negative relationship between employees’ performance and health and safety training. It was found that safety behaviors, organizational health and safety management systems, and incident investigation have a positive effect on employees’ performance. It was discovered that emergency preparedness, health and safety training, and hazard surveillance have a negative effect on employees’ performance.
