ABSTRACT
The study seeks to examine the use of online teaching and learning in higher education
during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown phase using a case study of students from
the archaeology department at the University of Ghana, Legon. The goal of the study
was to find out what kind of medium or mode students used to access online education
during the COVID-19 pandemic and how well it worked. The study also looked at how
well lecturers taught online and how the COVID-19 pandemic affected learning
environments, student behaviour, technological support, and interactions with faculty
members through online education.
The study used quantitative data to collect data from 186 students from the department
of archaeology at the University of Ghana, Legon. The mode of data collection was
the use of electronic questionnaires that were mailed to the student Gmail account. The
data collected was analysed using SPSS. The finding shows that email, telephonic
conversation, YouTube videos, Skype, Google Meet, Google Classroom, Zoom, and
television were used as platforms during online education. It was revealed from the
study that the platforms used for online education were stable and worked all the time
during online education.
