ABSTRACT
The construction industry in Oman has seen a significant development in growth to
the extent that is now the second biggest economic contributor in Oman. This
economic sector has led to developments in tourism, infrastructural amenities and
much more in the country. However, just like other sectors of every economy, the
construction development industry in Oman has been reported to have a lot of
challenges with regards to delay in completion and delivery of projects, some very
prominent factors which have been associated with delay in construction projects have
been identified to be significant contributors even in the construction industry in
Oman. This study was carried out to investigate the extent of the impact of this
construction project delay factors such as client related challenges, contractor related
challenges, administration and government related challenges on construction project
delay in Oman, the study also investigated the relationship and dependency of these
highlighted challenges with respect to construction project ownership. The results of
this study have carried our empirical data analysis which have been reported as having
no significant association and dependency on the ownership of construction projects
by the prominent construction project delay factors reviewed. Further findings have
been established through the empirical data analysis which have shown some of the
delay causing factors in construction projects in Oman are more prevalent and more
impactful on construction project completion and delivery to which necessary
recommendations have been made to adequately mitigate them.
