Hence, this study investigates pump-and-dump schemes. This study contributes to various ideas that form the basis for financial policy making specifically the crypto world and its functions. The aim of the study is to examine how the pump and dump scheme is used in the world of virtual currencies and how this scheme has long and short-term implications for the financial market in general. The potential for fraud as well as abuse has increased as a result of the recent growth of around 2000 digital currencies in the uncontrolled setting. Two popular platforms were examined which were Telegram and Discord groups. Data was collected and analyzed from the major trading website coinmarketcap.com between January and June 2018. A comparative analysis was conducted for information obtained from discord and telegram platform. The results extracted in the studies were analysed based on a comparative analysis which was conducted between the channels know as known as Discord and Telegram. The consequences of these results, as well as the suggestions that follow are discussed. Recommendations was made based on the study's findings.
