ABSTRACT
Effective Communication is a vital tool for the improvement of employees’
productivity in any organization, including manufacturing industry. It can help an
organization in several ways as it plays a role in not only employees management and
productivity but also in product development and customer relations which also have
significant connection with employee’s productivity. Employees therefore serve as key
audience because they generally represent the conduit to other audiences. The efficient
involvement and engagement of employees often result in strong communications with
other constituencies as well. Effective communication can also be channeled towards
other aspects in an organization such as resources and policies formulation. This work
will therefore attempt to examine the activities of the various departments with the
impact of effective communication on the productivity, performance and harmony of
the employees and the resultant growth in Kam Industries Limited (KIL), Ilorin,
Nigeria. The data used in this work were obtained through the use of questionnaires
with simple random sampling technique adopted. Out of the 80 questionnaires issued
out to the employees at KIL, 68 returned valid. Collected data were entered into the
Microsoft Excel (2016) software and transferred into the Statistical Package for Social
Science (SPSS) where descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation coefficient were
used for data analysis. The findings from this study have revealed that at Kam
Industries Limited, vertical upward, vertical downward and horizontal communication
types have strong significant correlation with employees’ performance. It therefore
demonstrates that effective communication in a manufacturing industry is a positive
predictor of employees’ productivity.
