ABSTRACT
In recent times China has been developing rapidly in many areas, whether is it
economically, technologically or in terms of military and this development has been a
threat to the United States in one way or the other. The question here is why is the
rising of China a threat to the United States’ hegemony. In answering the question this
paper analyzes how China has been rapidly developing in recent times and how
China’s goal has been to be at the level of the United States in the global system. Using
the concept of hegemony and the four main approaches of hegemony, this paper
concludes that China’s goal is to attain the same level in the international scene as the
United States and will continue to be a threat to the hegemony of the United States.
