ABSTRACT
Purpose- The financial sector controlled by the Central Bank of Ghana (BoG) had
some big changes which made it more difficult for new banks to easily enter the
banking sector. This research aims to investigate the several measures and
requirements implemented by the central Bank of Ghana (BoG) for Banks and
Financial Sector and how it has impacted the performance of banks specifically, Sector
income levels. This research follows other reports and papers that tried to uncover the
effects of the financial sector shake up and hopefully can serve as a building block for
similar researches to be conducted in the nearest future in Ghana.
Methodology- The quantitative approach will be adopted in this study. Data collection
will be made from journals, media reports, existing research paper and case studies.
This will help in gathering more detailed information on the research topic and in
answering the research questions. Before And After Analysis and Paired-Sample Ttest method will be employed to analyze the data collected. It will consider data from
the Central Bank and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and as well through the review
of existing literature from Journals, newspapers and articles.
Findings- This study would help in addressing issues regarding banking sector reforms
and their effects on the performance of banks in developing countries as well as inform
the central bank of Ghana on how regulations and high minimum capital requirements
can affect new entrants. By providing a thorough study and grasp of the subject of
banking reforms and regulations in developing nations, this work contributes to the
body of knowledge. It also adds to the corpus of knowledge already in existence and
help as a roadmap for future researches regarding similar topic.
