ABSTRACT
Telemedicine has been shown in numerous studies to be useful as a tool for increasing
healthcare access and decreasing the workload of healthcare professionals. This study
is focused on assessing the degree of technology acceptance and patient satisfaction
with telemedicine in Nigeria. A convenient sample of 564 participants was used in this
study to determine Nigerians’ perceptions towards the use of telemedicine for
healthcare delivery. A structured questionnaire containing relevant questions to
provide answers to this study’s research questions was administered to the participants
and their responses were recorded. Findings from this study revealed that despite the
limited practice of telemedicine and less-than-sophisticated forms currently in practice
in the Nigerian environment, there is still a high level of satisfaction with telemedicine
form of healthcare delivery. Also, many Nigerians show considerable levels of
satisfaction in terms of how well virtual consultations address their health concerns,
the effectiveness, and practicality of telemedicine for healthcare, as well as its
accessibility and sustainability considering the Nigerian environment. The Nigerian
government is encouraged to improve current telemedicine forms practiced in the
country, through adequate investment in telemedicine infrastructure.
