ABSTRACT
It is unclear how effective social media platforms are at encouraging support and
taking action for campaign messages or issues. The use of social media in various aspects of life has enabled people to collaborate, connect, and share information. Social media demonstrates its versatile wings in reaching a wide range of people. This study aims to investigate the use of social media for campaign messages on climate change mitigation and adaptation in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study employed a qualitative research method, sentiment analysis by scrapping data using the Apify mining tool, and an in-depth interview method, which was transcribed and thematically analysed using the NVIVO14 software analysis tool. The study examined four accounts, each from two social media platforms, Instagram and Facebook (Lagos state SDG invest, Ministry of Environment and water resources, Lagos state, UN SDG action and UNDP Nigeria), and eight participants, they are (director of programs, journalist, Director National Orientation Agency, Deputy Director National Orientation Agency, PRO Sustainability Development Goals Campus hub, Deputy
Director Ministry of Environment, Individual social media Professionals) were selected using the purposive sampling method. The findings of this study showed that social media is a powerful and versatile tool recognized as an effective communication method in climate change management. It also revealed that the process of communicating through social media, and information awareness in the local languages of different people helps foster mobilization and engagement. Positively, social media has a tremendous impact on communicating climate change. It is recommended that government institutions and non- governmental institutions should put more effort in their data gathering and output.
