Konu(lar): Tez notu: Thesis (MArch) - Cyprus International University. Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Architecture Department Özet: The present study delves into the domain of public spaces, with a focus on human behavior, social interaction, and the application of environmental human behavior the-ories. The relationship between human behavior and public spaces is investigated through a methodology that involved in-depth observation of human behavior and sur-veys on the ground conducted through questionnaires. Kumsal Park in Nicosia was selected as the case study due to its strategic location in the central district, scale, and activities within it as well as being the most frequently visited park in the city. It is classified as a linear recreational urban park, featuring spaces that function like squares and streets. The analysis focuses on the spatial, be-havioral, and social dimensions of public spaces, using the four key characteristics outlined by the Project for Public Spaces: accessibility, comfort and image, sociability, and function. The study's results provide valuable insights into how the park performs in relation to selected environmental human behavior theories. Various factors affect the interaction between users and public spaces as the built en-vironment, with weather conditions being particularly significant. Weather not only impacts the frequency of space usage but also influences the types of activities con-ducted. These findings support the application of environmental behavior theories, in-cluding crowding, subculture, structuralist, and compositional theories, which help elucidate the relationship between the environment and human behavior in public spaces. The findings of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the interplay be-tween public spaces, human behavior, and social interaction. They hold relevance for academics, policymakers, urban planners, and architects involved in the design and management of public spaces that cater to the needs and behaviors of the public.
