According to the United Nations, anyone older than 60 is considered an older person. Hundreds of thousands of elderly people are mistreated, ignored, and taken advantage of every year. Many victims are elderly, fragile, and defenseless individuals who are dependent on others to take care of their most basic requirements because they are unable to help themselves. Abusers of senior citizens can be male or female relatives, friends, or "trusted others."
