'Abstract This thesis deals with the analysis and development of the major female characters in the novels (The Radiant Way, The Needle's Eye and The Millstone) by a famous writer, Margaret Drabble. These novels are representatives of different stages in the author´s career and throughout the analyses; the evolution of her narrative techniques will be addressed. This study discusses the role of a literary character within a literary work as well as touching upon the issue of feminism. There is a brief introduction to the history of the feminist movement and also a subchapter focuses on the author´s position towards the women´s movement - whether she considers herself a feminist writer or if there are at least feminist features in her novels. It had been analyzed the main female character in these three novels with focus on the feminism side in each of these character. It had been analyzed each character from four lenses, social environment, family background, relationship with male characters and feminist check. By the result of the analyse it's possible to see Margaret drabble feminist side and her point of view toward women rights. This thesis's main aim is to analyze the characteristics of the female characters in three selected Margaret Drabble novels. The analysis will involve an in-depth examination of whether and/or how these characters developed throughout the novel and from one novel into the other. This study will also involve a recurring sub-chapter which focuses on the author in the eye of critics and other major writers of different periods. This sub-chapter will attempt to answer the question: is Margaret Drabble a feminist writer or just a writer with accidental touches on feminist themes? '
