This follows a series of observations made which showed that a large number of roads in Erbil are going through a lot of distress even after being repaired. The main problem with pavement in Erbil is not about how they can be repaired to further find a lasting solution to the occurrence of future deterioration. at a high rate. As a result, a visual survey of the 1.19 km Erbil Koya road was done in Northern Iraq. The basic idea was to identify the road distresses in order to find the types, severity and intensity of road distresses along the Erbil Koya road and perform possible life cost analysis. The findings revealed that the most disastrous road distresses found at the Erbil-Koya road are potholes, rutting, alligator, longitudinal and slippage cracking. The Erbil Koya road was observed to be having a PCI rating of 58 which indicated that the road performance of the Erbil-Koya road is relatively reasonable. The developed Life Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) of the Erbil-Koya road revealed that it will deteriorate by 40% after 6 years. Therefore, it is due for repairs at a cost between US$5.00/m2 to US$6.00/m2. Also, the Erbil-Koya road was noted to be in need of a lag spending of US$14-$20 when its PCI drops to poor. It was concluded that the best strategies that can be used to deal with are road distresses found at the Erbil-Koya road are fog seal, chip seal, micro surface and, mill and overlay.
