ABSTRACT
In modern social studies, globalization holds one of the most controversial research subjects. Scientists from a range of disciplines probe its history, processes, effects, and implications. The parameters of any research about the effects depends on the way it defined. Most of the studies, on the effects of globalism, assumes as if globalization is the change itself, and only focused on the economic and politic dimensions of globalism. On the other hand, in this thesis, while searching for the effects of globalization, change will be the main focus, and globalisation will be accepted as a component of change. This study on ‘change’ distinguishes itself from other studies, which can also be accepted as the main innovation of this dissertation. Instead of asking questions ‘what has changed’ and ‘what are the indications of change,’ the thesis asks ‘how’ and ‘why’ change occurs, and in order to answer these questions change has been reconceptualized. Another point that this thesis differentiates itself from other studies is its inductive approach. Most of the studies starts from global level and usually stops at the international level, and rarely go further down in the level of analysis. However, in this thesis, scrutinizing starts from individual level, and places human in the centre of reconceptualization. Furthermore, during reconceptualization two crucial categories of socio-environmental contexts emerges, Macro and Micro Contexts. The first one constituted from globalization, neo-liberal transformation, and international organizations (specific to this thesis international environmental organizations). The later one includes leadership and De-Facto States. In order to test this thesis reconceptualization of change, North Cyprus and Turkish Cypriot environmental organizations are chosen as a case study. In addition to this, it will also demonstrate us that the impact of globalization can even be able to reach to the isolated places.
