ABSTRACT Salvia veneris belongs to the Lamiaceae family. The family which mainly consist of 250 genera or more and over 6000 species which are distributed nationwide. Salvia veneris belongs to the Salvia genus which are very rich in essential oil and phenolic compounds. The genus is mostly used in cosmetics, medicine, perfume, food preservative. The aerial part of the leave was investigated for its bioactive components. The Fourier Transform Infrared Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) Spectroscopy was carried out using the plant extracts, the extracts were inserted into the spectrometry and each extract functional group was indicated in using the graph. The essential oil was extracted with hydro-distillation method using Clevenger apparatus and then analyzed through Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) indicated the following bioactive properties and their percentage; 1,8-cineole (48.89%), α-pinene (5.27%), Camphene (10.84%), Benzene (9.98%), Camphor (17.25%). According to the bioactive compound indicated, 1,8-cineole is the major component of Salvia veneris. There is also other bioactive compound that are present in lesser amount like, Benzaldehyde (0.03%), β-myrcene (1.32%) and α-terpinolene (1.11%). In this study, the phytochemical profiling of Salvia veneris extract endemic to Cyprus was investigated studying the antioxidant properties of the plant using DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1- picrylhydrazl) assay. The DPPH assay was carried out in a two-fold serial dilution of 0.394g of DPPH powder into 100ml of ethanol and 1g of Ascorbic acid into 5ml of ethanol. Salvia veneris extracts show remarkable antioxidant activity and scavenging activity. Keywords: Antioxidant, Essential oil, Extract, Lamiaceae Family, Salvia veneris, 1,8- Cineole
