Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Engineering Management Department; Includes bibliography (sheets 49-52) N2 - ABSTRACT Fast growing cities in developing countries have become the major contributor of construction waste which create vast rate of environmental pollution. In this study, a quantitative research approach was conducted by distributing 121 questionnaires to respective personals that are related to construction which involve project managers, architect, engineers and consultants. Factors that contribute to sources of construction waste were all analyzed using descriptive statistics, RII value and Pearson correlation was also conducted to ascertain the relationships between the factor that represent the research questions in the study. The research findings reveals that several factors contribute to high rate of construction waste include burning method, renovation and remodel are the factors with the highest RII value of 0.6958 and 0.6066 while the factors with the least RII value include design of building and availability of materials with RII of 0.3884 and 0.4247. furthermore, Pearson correlation was conducted to evaluate the relationship between size of a construction company and method of waste disposal factors at 0.470, 0.01 and lack of appropriate laws by government/causes of waste factors at 0.326, 0.01 and between size of organization firm and source of construction waste factors 0.251 and .006 respectively. Lastly, the factor of reliability was found at 0.898 which shows that the obtained data from the survey has a good internal consistency. In order to reduce the rate of waste generation, burning method of waste disposal is the factor that needs to have urgent attention and recycling method that have low attention need to be best way of handling waste. That client requirement need to be address so that they will not be selecting materials that produce too much waste in construction. Use of prefabricated element is the best measure for waste control/reduction and use of waste approximation should also be given less priority as regard to other factors.
