ABSTRACT Emotion, perceive stress and coping mechanism among Nigeria nurses during COVID-19 pandemic is still an issue to the world entirely. This study explored emotion, perceived stressors and emotional difficulties faced by Nigerian Nurses during the covid-19 pandemic. Method: A cross sectional online observational study was undertaken in Lagos state general hospitals Odan and Abuja general hospitals Maitama Nigeria. Data was obtained from 200 nurses using Google form. Three standardized instruments were used to obtained data; there are (10) questions on Perceived stress scale with the indications: 0 = Never 1 = Almost Never 2 = Sometimes 3 = Fairly Often 4=Very Often. for every scale on PSS, the minimum is 0 and the maximum is 4, there are (28) questions in coping mechanisms with the above options 1= I haven’t been doing this at all 2= a little bit 3= a medium amount 4= I’ve been doing this a lot. Every scale used in coping mechanism range in minimum of 1 and maximum of 4 while in Emotion Regulation scale has (10) questions with the indications: 1 =Strongly disagree 2 = Disagree 3 = More or less disagree 4=Undecided 5=More or less agree 6=Agree 7=Strongly agree. The minimum for every scale on emotion is 1 and the maximum scale is 7.Results shows that the total average scale of perceived stress level among by the Nigeria nurses (Mean= 2.67 and SD=0.65) which implies a medium amount of stress; total average of emotional regulation level among the nurse (Mean=5.55 and SD=0.98) which implies that the nurses experience emotional difficulties and lastly, the level coping mechanism scale among the nurses (Mean=2.79 and SD=0.37) which is remarked a medium amount level. It was also revealed that there was moderately strong relationship (0.2710) between perceived stress and emotion score of the nurse which was found to be significant while the relationship between perceived stress and coping mechanism was found to be very strong (0.528) and significant at 5% level of significant. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Nigeria nurses poses a trait to profession of nurses. Emotion, perceived stressor as well as coping mechanism employed by Nigeria Nurses should be well look into as this has a significant effect on the nurse. It is therefore recommended that all government, nurses and all stakeholders should work together to control the negative effect of COVID-19 in Nigeria.
