Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Management Information Systems Department; Includes bibliography (sheets 51-60) N2 - ABSTRACT The main goal of this study is to examine the impact social media has on the academic performances and learning of students in Cyprus international university. The study was directed by four research hypotheses. This study employs Quantitative survey approach. The study’s population of this research comprises students of CIU but all currently studying in TRNC. A sample of 528 students was chosen using the basic convenience sampling method. Data from the participants were gathered with the use of a five-point Likert Type Rating Scale Questionnaire known as the Social Media and Student Academic Performance Questionnaire (SMSAP). The demographic data gathered were analysed with the use of a descriptive statistics like frequency counts and percentages, and the hypotheses of the study were tested using inferential statistics like SPSS and SmartPLS4. According to this study, many students of CIU in Northern Cyprus are dependent on social media. This study suggests that the use of social media can be beneficial for educational purposes. Also those social networking platforms can be expanded; and most importantly many other measures must be taken to improve academic activities and prevent declines in students' academic performance .This is done with the intention to create a sense of balance between the students' social media usage and their pursuit for academic performances and excellence.
