ABSTRACT
The study has manifested a feminist stylistic analysis based on the selected short
stories written by Alice Munro. It can be said that the analysis based on the literary
language and methods can be described as stylistic. Based on the analysis of the short
stories written by Alica Munro it can be said that the writer has presented most of the
stories from a feminist perspective. According to feminism, the existing society is a
male dominated place in which the females have to struggle always to achieve their
required rights. However, “The Boys and Girls” and “Walker Brothers Cowboy” have
also been written by the researcher from the feminist approach and perspective.
However, the entire research has been made based on the critical analysis on the
writing styles and the perspectives of Munro. The fundamental aim and the objective
of the researcher in conducting this particular research are to identify the contributions
of the female writers especially up to the year 1960. Along with it, the researcher has
also thought to analyse the writing styles of the feminist writers on the overall literary
works and approaches.
It has been found that before 1960, the idea or the perception of feminism and the
feminist writers were not much popular in the society. In this context, it can be said
that even in the literary field in spite of the presence of many female writers, male
domination was evident. Therefore, the feminist approach of the writer in her short
stories was exceptionally new to the then readers. Based on that, it can be said that the
significance of this approach in the literary works of that period should be properly
analysed so that it can identify the significance of the works. However, the reason and
the significance of conducting this research lie in the fact of realising the importance
of this approach and on the female psychology and its impact on the readers. The
secondary method of data collection has been conducted by the researcher for this
study. On the other hand, the collected data and information were analysed by the
researcher with a thematic approach.
Female psychology, their sufferings, struggles; breakdowns have been manifested in
the short stories. However, after the analysis of the data it can be said that the feminist
approach of the stories were introduced and became popular to some extent in the
hands of Alice Munro with the help of smooth and lucid language that can easily attract
the readers.
