ABSTRACT This thesis examines the great power competition in the post-Soviet space. It argues that the United States and the European Union have been using a variety of political, economic, cultural, and informational tools to establish their control over the region, while the Russian Federation has been using its own tools to maintain its influence. The thesis concludes that the cooperation of the CIS countries with the EU and the USA in the field of energy remains a promising area in multilateral and bilateral relations, but that the tense relations between the Russian Federation, the USA and the EU could lead to instability not only in the region, but also around the world. The thesis contributes to the existing literature by providing a comprehensive analysis of the great power competition in the post-Soviet space. It also offers policy recommendations for the EU and the USA on how to manage their relations with the Russian Federation and the CIS countries in a way that minimizes the risk of instability in the region. Keywords: Great Power Competition, EU Policy, Post-Soviet Space, USSR, US Policy.
