Institute of Graduate Studies and Research Social Work N2 - This study explored the experiences of young mothers pursuing higher education, focusing on identifying the challenges they face, examining their coping strategies in balancing motherhood and academic responsibilities, and investigating the support systems available to them. To achieve the study’s aim and objectives, a qualitative research design was utilized. Snowball sampling was used to select women above 18 years old enrolled in a university in North Cyprus having at least one child who also speaks English. 30 minutes semi-structured interview was conducted with the study’s participant. The semi-structured interview was transcribed and coded into themes and sub-themes which were then thematically analysed. The result of the study showed that motherhood responsibilities imposed a large burden on student’ shoulders. The student mothers were shown to experience unpleasant emotional pressures that tend to stress them out and affect their mental well-being. Challenges such as finding adequate support system such as lactation rooms and childcare services were also experienced by the mothers. To cope with these challenges, the respondents highlighted the importance of time management to help cope with their academic studies while caring for their child. The role of support system from family members and colleagues was reported by the respondents as valuable to coping with the challenges of motherhood and education.
