Green supply chain management (GSCM) is an integral element for sustainability of construction industry. Although, it has had numerous benefits, yet its implementation has not faced any easy road due to emergence of impeding barriers. According to the literature, GSCM’s barriers have not received enough attention in particular, in the case of Egypt’s construction industry. In addition, many construction firms in Cairo lack knowledge regarding the adoption of GSCM in the construction industry. Therefore, the major objective of this study is to to identify key barriers which impede the implementation of GSCM in Cairo’s private construction firms. Accordingly, the proposed data collection methodology was a mixed research study. Also, interviews with participants were carried in this research and twenty participants took part in the interview. The findings of the study indicated that in order to effectively incorporate Green Supply Chain Management (GSCM) practices and promote environmental sustainability, it is imperative for construction projects to embrace strategic planning, conduct thorough risk assessments, foster collaboration with stakeholders, implement training and education initiatives, and demonstrate proactive compliance with environmental regulations. Also, Through the implementation of sustainable supply chain practices, construction companies have the opportunity to adopt environmentally conscious approaches, thereby mitigating their ecological footprint.
