' ABSTRACT Most African countries experienced colonial rule of major world powers, Nigeria was under the British government, which implemented the indirect rule system. British government claimed ownership of certain areas most especially the Niger Delta due to its site and natural resources, amalgamation of the protectorate of the north and south resulted to the civil war 1967-1970, this was due to the different ethnic and religious background. The political economy relations between Britain and Nigeria which has existed from pre-colonial, colonial and most especially after independence, the relations which has diversified from the civil war years, to political help during the transit from military rule to democracy, it cut across crude oil and cash crops exportation. This relations hasn't totally been profitable to Nigeria, Britain which has a strong hold based on their pre-existing relations, corruption which has been a stumbling block in developing of Nigeria has yield much investors, with the security insurgency; Boko Haram, Niger Delta militants and ethnic/tribal differences. Recently, Britain made an exit out of the European Union; which will take a toll on the economy of Britain and Nigeria, most especially Nigeria, as a common wealth nation, there would be new agreements on trade which won't be in the best interest of Nigeria.
