ABSTRACT
This research aims to raise awareness of the Boko Haram and its repercussions for
Nigerian national security. It takes a descriptive and exploratory approach, using a
historical style of research and content analysis. It demonstrates how the Boko Haram
insurgency has resulted in a dire humanitarian situation, as evidenced by the high
number of human casualties, human rights violations, (enforced displacement) An
involuntary or compelled removal of a person or individuals away from their home or
home region is known as forced displacement (also forced migration) and refugee
crisis, livelihood crisis, and public insecurity – all of which threaten Nigeria's national
security. Because most governments place a high value on human life, terrorists often
prefer to target people rather than facilities. Terrorists will attempt to use the media to
emphasize their operations to gain attention to their cause and amplify their limited
influence. Because terrorism has the edge of surprise, defenses rarely know the type,
scope, time, or precise location of the next attack. Nonetheless, given the difficulty of
retaliating against terrorists and the potential that retaliatory strikes could damage or
kill innocent civilians, as well as increase the number of terrorist recruitment,
preventive measures are the best protection against terrorism. State-sponsored
terrorism raises the resources accessible to terrorists while also increasing the
likelihood of international conflict. Officers must have a good understanding of
terrorist techniques to prevent terrorist strikes against military installations and troops.
The Nigerian government should refocus its efforts on a people-centric, community based, and intelligence-driven, whole-of-government approach to better police its
borders, improve security force capacity, enhance interagency cooperation, and
improve sub-regional cooperation, according to the report made by the securities
agencies. A change to a restorative and communal justice strategy might be the first
step toward finding a long-term solution.
