Depending on how one sees it poverty has a lot of definition but it is basically the lack of ability to provide basic needs for oneself. Some of the things that leads to poverty are unemployment, lack of infrastructure, lack of good health, low income acquisition and lots more. This study seeks to look into what poverty means in Nigeria and Uganda context, and also how it is measured on household and societal level. The measures and procedures taken to eradicate poverty in Nigeria and Uganda will be studied. The roles of individuals and governments in contributing to the problem or their contributions to eradicate it will also be examined in this study. The strategies that has been put in place to eradicate poverty in order to better the lives of people. Keywords: Nigeria; Poverty; Alleviation; Uganda; Corruption.
