520 _aABSTRACT In a quest for a government that supports and protects the human rights of the citizens the state of Libya has fallen into an unfortunate position that further violates its citizens rights. This research analyzes the state of human rights in Libya and the challenges it faces. The study reviewed the history of governance in Libya from the colonial era to the monarchy that ruled over Libya then to the authoritarian regime of Muammar Qaddafi, and how the past governments handled, upheld or violated human rights of the people. This study also sheds light on the civil war which ousted the dictatorship regime and how the country proposed a transitional government. Further comprehensive research was done with regards to the transitional government and the current civil war in the context of human rights in Libya. This study presents a comprehensive in-depth report of how conflict, terrorism, and migration affect human rights in the state of Libya.
