520 _aABSTRACT The purpose of the thesis entitled "Spatial Experience of Industrial Heritage in Cyprus: Nicosia Municipal Arts Centre" is providing information on the consciousness of the space in adaptive reused historical buildings as well as experiencing the space by sensorial approaches. This thesis presents a study method in the context of future re-use proposals in order to determine the areas occupied by these unused industrial structures on the island of Cyprus and to raise awareness. This method; it reveals the stages that can be followed in the investigation of the existing conditions of the buildings, the design disciplines that should be decided in restoration studies, and the interpretation of the effects of new functions to be applied to the building on the users. Hence, interpreting the intangible effects on the users when we encounter the tangible values of the space depends on experiencing the space with all our senses. This work, both as a user and as an architect; by making use of the perspectives of the theorists who have worked on spatial experiences and the models of experiencing space. It was made in line with individual and user observations. In the study, the architectural elements of the building and the effects of these elements on the space has been examined and interpreted with different user profiles. The scope of the study is limited to Cyprus Island to increase efficiency and due to the convenient conditions in reaching the buildings. The re-functioning industrial buildings, being used for social, cultural, and educational purposes, form the scope of the thesis. Interpreting people's unwitting effort to perceive and understand the daily life puts forth the originality of this study. The study consists of six chapters. The first chapter includes the aim, scope, significance, study questions, limits, and methodology of the study, as well as structure. The second chapter includes literature reviews. In this context, researches on industrial heritage in the world and Cyprus, conservation charters, spirit of space, spatial experiences, and multisensory architecture are made. In the third chapter, the methodology is explained. In the study, phenomenological approach, interpretive, qualitative and quantitative research methods are used. Readings concerning the spatial experiences with sensorial approach in adaptive reused industrial heritage building selected throughout Cyprus Island are made in the fourth chapter. The data obtained from spatial experiences are evaluated and discussed in the fifth chapter. The sixth chapter is the closing reflections.
