520 | _aABSTRACT The study was aimed at examining the effects of environmental issues to business management in today's world. With a case study of Northern Cyprus a total of 124 questionnaires were distributed and retrieved from managers and owners of small and medium scale enterprises in the study area. In order to achieve 3 specific objectives which are: to determine the relationship between environmental issues and business management in the study area, to identify the major environmental issues affecting Small and Medium scale enterprises in the study area and to identify mitigating strategies employed by Small and Medium scale enterprises in the study area. Descriptive statistics comprising of percentages, frequencies and mean of means was employed to analyze the survey data. Findings from this study show that 81.45% respondents opine that there is significant relationship between environmental issues and business management. Climate change (32.26%) and waste disposal (25.81%) were outlined as the major environmental issues affecting SME’s in the study area and using mean of means, four major areas affected were outlined; providing opportunities for business organizations, increasing operating cost of businesses, reducing productivity of employees and reducing business productivity. Consequently, SME’s in the study area have adopted various and multiple strategies to mitigate such environmental issues such as complying with environmental regulations (19.03%), smart use of resources (52.42%), use of green energy (45.96%) and waste recycling (26.01%).
