520 _aABSTRACT Ever since establishment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the United Nations, countries around the world have made it an ultimate purpose to improving lives, systems and living standards of people in line of achieving these goals. One of the major ventures central to this purpose is the actions and success of Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a country which has taken this purpose to heart and has impacted its growth and development since the year 2000. However, these enterprises despite their nature and way of conducting business encounter challenges that shrink most of their successes and hence their impact on the economy in which they operate. A key challenge has to do with management especially the enterprises in Northern Cyprus. This research work seeks to investigate the practice of one of the most important aspects of management which has proven to be significant in maintaining, growing and developing SMEs for the past recent years; strategic management and its impact on SMEs performance. The study engages quantitative research method by the use of structured questionnaire using 188 top management staff of construction SMEs as sample. The results of the study show positive impact of each of the practices; environmental scanning, strategy formulation, strategy implementation and strategy evaluation on performance of SMEs in TRNC. This underlies one of the facts of 5.8% growth in the economy of North Cyprus in 2018. Therefore, referencing from this study, strategic management practices are being encouraged in SMEs for higher performance and MDGs achievement.
