At the same time, attitudes and consumer confidence are crucial for the tourism sector's economic recovery. This study investigates the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on people's attitudes toward tourism in Pakistan by analyzing time-series data on the number of COVID-19-positive cases, vaccinations, news sentiment, the total number of daily mentions of tourism, and the share of voice for positive and negative sentiment toward tourism. Data is collected through an online questionnaire from 300 participants from Karachi and Islamabad in Pakistan and then analyzed using SPSS. The results demonstrate that the COVID-19 statistics significantly affect tourism-related interest and positive and negative attitudes toward tourism. The results contribute to knowledge and practice by describing the effects of disease statistics on attitudes toward tourism, introducing social media sentiment analysis to measure positive and negative attitudes toward tourism, and offering recommendations for government authorities, destination management organizations, and tourism providers.
