520 | _aTime and cost overruns in construction projects are major concerns in Afghanistan as a developing country. Understanding these overruns enables organizations to improve project outcomes, enhance financial performance, and maintain positive relationships with stakeholders, ultimately contributing to long-term success and sustainability. This research highlights the significant challenges posed by time and cost overruns in Afghan construction projects. It identifies twelve categories of factors contributing to time overruns and twenty significant factors leading to cost overruns, based on an analysis of twenty-six selected projects. The categories for time overruns include poor project planning, inadequate resource allocation, and bureaucratic delays, while factors for cost overruns encompass inaccurate cost estimation, price escalation of materials, and financial mismanagement. Addressing these challenges requires a nuanced understanding of the complex interplay of factors involved. This enables organizations to enhance project management strategies, improve overall project outcomes, and mitigate risks associated with overruns. Effective strategies may involve better project planning, stringent cost control measures, and improved stakeholder communication. In conclusion, tackling time and cost overruns is crucial for the success of construction projects in Afghanistan. By identifying and addressing the contributing factors, organizations can achieve better project efficiency, reduce financial losses, and ensure timely project completion. This research provides valuable insights for improving project management practices and achieving sustainable development in the Afghan construction industry. | ||
