520 _aThis study investigated the effects of project management on the performance of construction companies in Nigeria. Project management is an integral process designed to facilitate successful project implementation and client satisfaction. To investigate the effects of project management and performance, the ten knowledge areas of project management were correlated with performance indicators. This study has six specific objectives; to investigate how important is project management knowledge areas in determining the success of construction projects. To find out how construction companies in Nigeria utilize project management knowledge areas. To examine how performance indicators account for the success of construction projects. To find out the correlation between project management and project performance. To find out the Challenges of Militating Project Management Practices in Nigeria. To proffer the possible solution to the identified challenges to Project Management Practices in Nigeria. The study adopted a survey research design and sampled (n-165) construction companies in Nigeria. The data collected were analyzed using statistical analysis like descriptive and regression analysis respectively. The study finds that; project management and project performance are essential for service delivery among construction companies. Project management has a positive correlation to project performance. Financial setbacks, human resources, and lack of technical know-how are the key setbacks to the implementation of project management. The study recommends that; the government should subsidize the price of construction equipment; project management should be compulsory for every project. The government should enact a law that regulates construction projects and performance in Nigeria.
