| Özet notu | ABSTRACT<br/>Ever since establishment of Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the United <br/>Nations, countries around the world have made it an ultimate purpose to improving <br/>lives, systems and living standards of people in line of achieving these goals. One of <br/>the major ventures central to this purpose is the actions and success of Small and <br/>Medium-Scale Enterprises. Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a country which <br/>has taken this purpose to heart and has impacted its growth and development since the <br/>year 2000. However, these enterprises despite their nature and way of conducting <br/>business encounter challenges that shrink most of their successes and hence their <br/>impact on the economy in which they operate. A key challenge has to do with <br/>management especially the enterprises in Northern Cyprus. This research work seeks <br/>to investigate the practice of one of the most important aspects of management which <br/>has proven to be significant in maintaining, growing and developing SMEs for the past <br/>recent years; strategic management and its impact on SMEs performance. The study <br/>engages quantitative research method by the use of structured questionnaire using 188 <br/>top management staff of construction SMEs as sample. The results of the study show <br/>positive impact of each of the practices; environmental scanning, strategy formulation, <br/>strategy implementation and strategy evaluation on performance of SMEs in TRNC. <br/>This underlies one of the facts of 5.8% growth in the economy of North Cyprus in <br/>2018. Therefore, referencing from this study, strategic management practices are being <br/>encouraged in SMEs for higher performance and MDGs achievement. <br/>Keywords: Environmental Scanning, Performance, Small and Medium-scale <br/>Enterprises, Strategic Management, Strategy Evaluation, Strategy Formulation, <br/>Strategy Implementation, Top management staff, Turkish Republic of Northern <br/>Cyprus. |
